Pontoon Beach, IL (September 20, 2008) Tim Hancock of Mt. Olive, IL earned the biggest payday of his racing career by winning the finale of the U.M.P. DIRTcar Modified Mania at Tri-City Speedway. Hancock pocketed just over $3,800 by taking the $3,000 victory and leading every single lap of the forty lap main event which paid $20 per lap to the leader. Hancock dominated the event as his only real challenge for the lead came shortly after a lap twenty caution when Jeff Leka was able to pull along side him on the first lap after the race restarted. But it didn't take long for Hancock to pull away.
Kevin Weaver, who won on Friday night and finished second on Thursday night, took over the second spot with ten laps remaining in the event and tried to run down Hancock, but could never get closer than about five car lengths as they raced through lapped traffic. Matt Mevert would also get by Leka and finish in the third spot. Leka would finish in the fourth position with Tommie Seets, Jr. rounding out the top five.

Several drivers found trouble early on in the event. After taking a provisional to get into the starting field Denny Schwartz got together with Larry Hull on the opening lap with both cars making contact with the wall in turn three. Hull's night would end there and Schwartz had a flat and was a half lap behind the field when he came back on the track as the race was restarted. Schwartz would find more trouble later and pulled off to the infield. Clayton Miller started on the outside of the front row after a great qualifying lap and then going on to win his heat race and finish second in the dash, but he started slipping back quickly and pulled off onto the infield after just a few laps.

Brent Mullins made the biggest charge through the field. Mullins won the first semi-feature and started ninteenth and proceeded to work his way up to an eighth place finish.

Kevin Weaver took the victory in the King of the Hill Dash by beating out Jeff Leka. Weaver picked up a $500 bonus for winning the King of the Hill Dash.

In the U.M.P. DIRTcar Super Late Model action, Michael Kloos of Trenton, IL dominated the feature event as he stormed to victory with a half-track lead over second place finish Steve Karnes. With the feature event going the entire twenty-five laps without a caution, Kloos put two-thirds of the field down at least one lap as he set a blistering pace around the 3/8 mile oval. A great battle raged on for second as Karnes, Rusty Griffaw and Chad Zobrist swapped around the positions for most of the twenty-five laps. Rick Salter would join that battle in the closing laps. Karnes would get the second spot with Zobrist finishing third, Salter fourth and Griffaw fifth.

Bobby Dauderman continued his spectacular season in the U.M.P. DIRTcar Pro Late Model division as he picked up yet another victory. Clay Baumann challenged Dauderman early on for the lead, but Dauderman would pull away in the closing laps to take the victory. Mark Oller would finish in the third position with Danny Jolly finishing fourth. Shannon Kuhn rounded out the top five.

Ryan Eilers claimed the victory in the U.M.P. DIRTcar Sportsman division. Eilers battled with Joe McCain in the early laps before opening up a fairly comfortable lead. As the twenty lap feature began to wind down, Gary Haynes began to reel in Eilers for the top spot. Haynes would get within a car length of Eilers but ran out of laps and settled for a second place finish. Jason Keller came home third with McCain finishing fourth and Troy Medley fifth. Jimmy Cummins charged from the twenty-second starting spot to finish sixth.

There were 157 racecars at Tri-City Speedway on Saturday night including 58 U.M.P. DIRTcar Modifieds, 50 U.M.P. DIRTcar Sportsman, 27 U.M.P. DIRTcar Late Models and 22 U.M.P. DIRTcar Pro Late Models.
