Pontoon Beach, IL (June 18, 2010) With rain showers dotting the radar around the St. Louis area once again, Tri-City Speedway was completely spared of the precipitation allowing a nice field of cars in all five divisions.

In the Super Late Model division, Craig Smith of Godfrey, IL had a dominating performance as he led the main event’s entire twenty-five lap distance and put all but the top seven finishers of the twenty-five starter at least one lap down. While Smith was out front roaring through lapped traffic, a terrific battle was raging for the second through fifth positions. Tim Ratajczyk and Bryan Collins were fighting for the second spot while right behind them, Rick Salter and Kenny Schrader were battling for the fourth spot all while dicing through lapped traffic. As Ratajczyk and Collins battled for the second spot on lap fourteen, they came upon Dewayne Keifer to put him a lap down as they raced down the backstretch. As the cars banged doors down the backstretch, Keifer’s car would climb the backstretch wall and then flip violently end over end down the backstretch. Keifer would fortunately walk away from the incident unscathed. On the restart, Smith would once again pull away and let the others battle over the second spot. Another late race caution with three laps remaining would allow Ratajczyk and Collins to pull right up to the rear bumper of Smith on the restart. However, Smith once again would power away and take the victory. Collins would squeeze past Ratajczyk and take the second spot. Ratajczyk would be third, while Salter would get by Schrader for fourth leaving Schrader in the fifth spot.

Modified Point leader Rick Conoyer jumped out to the early lead in the main event from his front row starting spot and pulled away to comfortable early lead. However, Joe Dresch would move to the high side and use the big cushion that had developed to work his way toward the front after starting in the ninth position. Dresch would move past Conoyer on lap eight and open up a comfortable lead. Conoyer would then find a better line and began to reel Dresch back in. On lap fifteen, Conoyer would move under Dresch and pull along side for the lead. Dresch would then find his rhythm and once again pull away from Conoyer. Meanwhile, Marty Smith, Jr. was a man on a mission. After Smith’s car broke in hotlaps, he would miss his heat race while they went back to their shop to get his brother’s car. Smith then started dead last in the main event and ripped through the field. Smith would come up just short in his efforts and finish third behind winner Dresch and second place finisher Conoyer. Without any caution periods in the second half of the event, Smith couldn’t make up the ground on the two leaders. Scott Weber would perform almost an identical mission as Smith did. Weber started one spot ahead of Smith in the twentieth starting spot in the main event and would follow Smith across the line in fourth. Ricky Horton would complete the top five.

In the UMP Pro Late Model division, Daniel Heck jumped out to the early lead from his outside front row starting spot. Heck would pace the first seven laps before Scott Weber would power his way past Heck for the lead. Weber, driving his “Pirates of the Caribbean” paint schemed machine appropriately nicknamed “Black Pearl” would dominate the rest of the event and take the victory. Bobby Pierce was on the move as he worked his way into the second spot as he moved past Heck by using the high side. While Pierce was beginning to reel in leader Weber, he would slip exiting turn two with just three laps remaining. Pierce would nearly spin as he got completely sideways, allowing Heck and Casey Montague to get past him. Weber would take the win with Heck hanging on for a second place finish. Pierce would recover and get back past Montague for the third spot. Montague would get fourth while Jason Zobrist rounded out the top five.

Those that left early, missed one of the most exciting Street Stock feature events ever at Tri-City Speedway. Terry McCann would get the early lead in a battle with Richie Gabriel and Danny Ems. After a few laps, Gabriel would slip back leaving a two car battle for the top spot with McCann and Ems. The two raced side-by-side lap after lap until the caution flag flew on lap eight. Ems would get credit for the leading the last full lap before the caution as he had crossed the line by a nose ahead of McCann on the previous lap. With Ems out front on the restart, McCann knew he had to mount a big charge to get back around Ems. However, he would get into turn four too fast on the very next lap and spin, taking himself out of competition for the win. With McCann out of the battle for the lead, it appeared Ems would be able to cruise to victory in the remaining few laps. However, another car had been lurking back in the top five and would restart in the second spot behind Ems. Andy Beavers would make the final five laps very exciting as he used the low side to pull along side Ems for the top spot. The two would race the final three laps completely side-by-side the entire distance around the track. Each car nosing ahead of the other for the lead around different parts of the track. As they took the white flag, they crossed the line in a dead heat photo finish. However, there was another lap to go and the two continued the battle for the lead. As they exited turn four for the final time, they were once again side-by-side. Beavers would beat Ems to the line by a bumper for the win. Jimmy Bell would finish in the third spot with teammate Buddy Love in fourth. Michael Jefferies would round out the top five.

Jordan Suhre would claim the Factory Stock victory. That was Suhre’s fifth victory already in the 2010 season at Tri-City Speedway. Trevor Isaak, the only other drive to win a Factory Stock feature in 2010 at Tri-City Speedway would finish second. Justin Hall would finish third after starting nineteenth. Willie Myers was fourth and Travis Horner fifth.
