Pontoon Beach, IL (June 1, 2005) Randy Korte fought off the challenges of Rodney Melvin for most of the thirty laps during the main event to capture the UMP Challenge of Champions event at Tri-City Speedway. Korte charged into the lead on the opening lap from the outside front row starting position and paced all thirty laps. Melvin stayed glued to the back of Korte for most of the event, but Korte put a little distance between himself and Melvin late in the event as they worked lapped traffic. Mark Oller continued his great season at Tri-City Speedway as he made a late race pass on Clay Baumann to finish third. Baumann, who won the qualifying dash, came home fourth. Michael Kloos rounded out the top five.

Brian Bielong set the pace in the UMP Modified event as he worked his way past Rusty Griffaw early on in the event and lead the final sixteen laps of the twenty lap main event to earn the win. Griffaw made a challenge on the final lap for the lead but came up short and settled for second. Bobby Bittle made it a three way battle for the lead at the end as he crossed the line a very close third. Mike Harrison finished fourth in his first appearance of 2005 at Tri-City Speedway. Denny Schwartz charged through the field after starting seventeenth in the main event to finish fifth. Schwartz was up to fifth by lap ten but was unable to advance any further through the stellar field of UMP Modifieds that were on hand.

John Leahy drove his Dwarf Car to victory. Leahy moved past early leader Justin Buchholz at the half way point and then held off a last lap challenge by Ron Wick. Wick chased Leahy down as the final laps wound down but came up just short at the line and settled for second. Dave Huffman took third.
