Pontoon Beach, IL (August 22, 2008) Fans got their money's worth at Tri-City Speedway as all five feature events saw final lap battles that came down to the wire, including the closest feature finish ever recorded at Tri-City Speedway since they began using transponders four years ago.
In the Super Late Model division, Billy Faust of Lebanon, IL recorded his sixth victory this season at Tri-City Speedway. Faust's victory didn't come easy as Bryan Collins pressured Faust early on as the two swapped the lead. However, as the two fought lapped traffic, Collins would make slight contact with Faust in turn three as he chased him through the corner, causing Collins' machine to spin. Collins would have to restart at the back, which ended his chance of victory. That would set the stage for Chad Zobrist and Mark Voigt to pressure Faust. Voigt would pull along side Faust on several occassions while battling for the lead, but could not complete a pass. Meanwhile Zobrist kept the heat on Voigt as well for second. After a late race caution that set the stage for a two lap shootout, Voigt and Zobrist would battle each other for second, allowing Faust to take the victory. Voigt would get second after Zobrist's machine jumped the cushion in turn four on the final lap. Zobrist would get third, Tim Ratajczyk would take the fourth spot and Dewayne Kiefer completed the top five.

The Modified division put on a exciting show as well as Ray Walsh of St. Louis, MO picked up his third feature win of 2008 at Tri-City Speedway. Walsh had to contend with challenges from Marty Smith, Jr. and Matt Mevert over the entire twenty lap distance. Neither Smith nor Mevert could get by Walsh as they challenged Walsh on the low side as Walsh used the big cushion around the top to keep the lead. Mevert would take the second spot with Smith taking third. Tommie Seets, Jr. would finish in the fourth spot and Bobby Martintoni completed the top five.

The UMP Pro Late Model feature had the closest finish ever recorded at Tri-City Speedway since transponders came in use four years ago at the track. Bobby Dauderman had opened up a sizeable lead over Casey Montague but as they reached the final few laps of the main event, Dauderman got into heavy lapped traffic, which allowed Montague to close in on him. As the two went down the back stretch on the final lap, Montague got under Dauderman as they entered turn three. Dauderman checked up going into turn three and then dove back under Montague as they exited turn four. The two raced side-by-side along with a lapped car in the middle of them to the checkered flag. They crossed the line in a dead heat with the transponder computer system registering them as finishing .00000 seconds (virtually tied) apart. However, the transponders are located back at the rear of the engine on the cars. All four officials in the tower agreed that Montague's nose had reached the finish line first as they took the checkered flag. The scoreboard actually showed Dauderman's car number in first, but that was because the transponder system showed a tie and it placed the leader from the previous lap in first. Gordy Gundaker had another great run as well as he finished in a very close third. Brant Kehrer finished in the fourth spot and Tyler Deibert completed the top five.

The UMP Street Stocks also had a near photo finish. Tommy Gegg led all fifteen laps to pick up his first win of 2008 at Tri-City Speedway, however he only led the final lap by a nose as Danny Ems came from the back to battle Gegg for the win. Ems was forced to restart the feature at the rear along with point leader Josh Jackson after the two got together on the initial start with Jackson spinning to the infield down the front stretch. Terry McCann would finish third behind Ems while Richie Gabriel and Steve Leach rounded out the top five. All of the UMP Street Stock results remain unofficial as the entire top six finishers had an engine teardown and inspection after the feature and some of those inspections won't be complete until early next week.

The UMP 4 Cylinders (Factory Stock) division saw Jason Schmidt earn his third win of 2008 and extend his point lead over Bob Zbinden. Chris Williams would finish in the second spot with Jon Ripperda, Rob Shaw and Andy Hellman completing the top five.
